OTTAWA RIVER - McKoy's Chute - Leftside Horseshoe

LEFTSIDE HORSESHOE
Good at: -5 to -1 (Hole Play)
Good at: 6 to 10 feet (Fluffy Bunny)

At the bottom of McKoy's rapid, a horseshoe-shaped pit forms before the flatwater paddle to either of the middle or main channels.  This pit is separated in the cetnre by a green tongue which is your target for getting through at most levels.  Each side of the pit has happy levels and scary levels.  We'll tell you the happy levels.

Hole Play at -5 to -1 feet
As the level drops, Leftside Horseshoe becomes less diagonal and easier to control.  It is comparable to the world-famous Rock Island Hole in terms of size and shape.  Big air moves can be thrown down the middle in front of the foam.  Just watch out as you wash off, not to hit the surfer on Babyface (which is directly below Leftside).

Fluffy Bunny at 6 to 10 feet
At higher levels, the hole turns into more of a wave-hole and is referred to as "Fluffy Bunny".  It can be caught easily by dropping in sideways.  Even though it is easy to surf, you are actually surfing the low water pour-over that creates the eddy next to Leftside at low water.  It has a tendenc to be shallow until it becomes a wave and has broken many paddles.
